Description
The Urban Harvest Garden is a joint project of the Urban League of Portland and the African Women’s Coalition.It is located at North Beech Street and Albina Avenue.
Inger McDowell, community organizer at the Urban League, said that so far about 20 African and African American families and seniors have signed up for garden plots.
“We believe we’re one of the only garden projects in the city that is being organized by and for communities of color,” she said. “We want this to be an intercultural, intergenerational safe and engaging space.”
McDowell is still taking applications for plots, so if you live in the area and are interested in growing some food this summer, contact her at imcdowell@ulpdx.org, 503-280-2600, ext. 641, or just stop by the Urban Harvest Garden from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
